Reverse Engineering Services

Reverse engineering means we take your existing part (or its scan) and create an editable fully parametric 3D CAD model from it. This CAD model isn’t just a look-alike – it’s a ‘smart’ model that you can tweak, measure, or use for manufacturing.

The What

Use Cases

Your part is carefully redrawn in CAD software, sketching each feature to match. It is essentially reconstructed digitally, feature by feature, so the final model is clean and parametrically editable. If we are 3D scanning it, then it is double-checked for accuracy by overlaying the model on the original scan to ensure a precise match before delivery.

Save time vs. designing from scratch. Instead of creating a part from a blank slate, let’s capture the real thing and build on it, saving both design time and cost.

Lost or broken part? Reverse engineering lets you recreate it. I often help folks who have an old part that’s no longer made – by scanning and modeling it. Or Perhaps the part works okay, but could be better. With a CAD model, you can tweak dimensions or add features.

The How

1. Discuss

First, send over an image of the object that you'd like to be reverse engineered. We'll discuss your project and what your specific needs are. Things like tolerances, output formats, and other desired services like 3D Scanning and Printing.

2. Quote

3. Pickup

4. Model

After we get an idea of your project requirements, we'll send over a estimate of how much it'll cost. Reverse engineering services starts around $150.

5. Delivery

You can ship over the object that you like to be reverse engineered. Or we can pick it up if you're in the area. Shipping would be to Columbia, SC.

With the the object in hand, it will take 4-5 days depending on the complexity of the project. The process starts with careful measurement, then ends with extensive CAD modeling to ensure the model matches reality as well as your needs.

With the model now finished, it's ready for you to receive. You will receive both an interactive online digital rendering, as well as the physical CAD model files in multiple formats.
